Since we last updated you, 3 games have been played in the West Coast
Conference. St. Mary’s has dropped to a tie from first, USF now sits
in third place and Santa Clara sits in a tie for fourth going into the
last weekend of regular season play. Over the last twelve days, the
first place Gaels have lost three in a row including a bracketbuster
loss to #24 Utah State. They were also upset by bottom-dwellers, USD
and last night they lost at home in OT to Gonzaga 89-85. The Zags
pulled into a first place tie with the Gaels leading up to an exciting
weekend where a WCC champion will be crowned.

Third place University of San Francisco rebounded from a tough loss to
the Gaels and has won 2 out of 3 including last night’s one point OT
victory over Pepperdine. They look like a lock for the 3 seed and
would be a potentially touch matchup for the Zags or the Gaels in the
WCC semifinals. Lastly, the Santa Clara Broncos recovered from losing
back to back games (Gonzaga, Portland) to beat LMU in a double OT
thriller on Thursday night. Although leading scorer and the nation’s
top 3pt shooter, Kevin Foster, struggled, the Broncos were able to
pull out a victory behind career nights from Marc Trasolini’s 31
points and Ben Dowdell’s 26 points and 14 rebounds.

Here are the matchups for this upcoming weekend:
Gonzaga at San Diego
Loyola Marymount at San Francisco
Pepperdine at Santa Clara
Portland at Saint Mary’s

All the games have big seeding implications for the upcoming WCC
tournament in March, held in Las Vegas.
