The San Jose Sharks continued their strong play as they started off March with a comeback shootout victory against the Colorado Avalanche. I was in attendance for this game and got to see some Joe Thornton magic as he scored an equaliser (17:02 3rd) off a deflection from a Jason Demers shot. After dominating most of the play for two periods, the Sharks got sloppy in the third and gave up a goal to the Avalanche early (1:18) off a power play. Despite some sloppy play, an inability to take advantage of power plays, and some over-passing of the puck, the Sharks continued to fight hard and pulled out the victory in the shootout. Ryan Clowe fired home the winner past Avalanche goalie Brian Elliot (34 saves), while Antti Niemi was solid in the net with 18 saves and a clean sheet in the shootout after signing a 4-year contract extension and being named the Sharks player on the month. The Sharks will now have 5 straight games in San Jose and will continue to fight for playoff positioning as they trail the second-place Red Wings by 4 points (84-80). The two teams square off tomorrow night at 730pm at the HP Pavillion.
