Madden ’12 Cover

The next version of EA Sports’ top of the line NFL game, Madden, will be released in August like it is every year. This year is going to be a little different. The cover athlete will be decided by fan voting via ESPN 2’s SportsNation. The voting field contains 32 players in two separate brackets vying for the top spot. First round matchups include: 1-seed Aaron Rodgers of the Packers versus 16-seed Ndamukong Suh of the Detroit Lions. On the other side, we got a 7-10 matchup boasting SF 49er P Willy against rival Seahawks fans and the 12th Man. Each round of voting lasts for a week (starting this week) and goes until April 26th. The winner will be unveiled on SportsNation (ESPN’s worst show by far) in late April. It is an interesting advertising and sales approach from EA Sports and I am sure it will work for in their favor. In my opinion, it should go to 10-seed Peyton Hillis (how the fuck did Danny Woodhead get ranked higher)…

All in all, it is a stupid, yet entertaining idea.  The truth is that no one wants to win this competition. Madden cover athletes have been cursed dating back to Eddie George in 2001. From 2001 to 2010, the cover athletes have either gotten injured or struggled severely during their season. Drew Brees seems to be the exception in 2011, but his team was knocked out of the playoffs early and were BEASTMODED by Money Marshawn Lynch…

Heck, I vote for Marshawn Lynch…this should be the cover:
