Today marks the beginning of the season of the four major PGA tournaments. The first tournament of the year is known as “The Masters.” It is scheduled for the first full week of April every year and is the only one of the four majors to be played in the same location every year, Augusta National Golf Club in Augusta, Georgia. It has been won 6 times by the Golden Bear, Jack Nicklaus; 4 times by Tiger Woods and Arnold Palmer; and 3 times by last year’s champion, Lefty Phil Mickelson. The Masters is the best PGA tournament in my opinion due to its’ unique, one-of-a-kind status. Not only is it played in the same location every year since the beginning (1934), but the winners are given a green jacket to commemorate their victory. The green sports coat is the jacket that Augusta National members receive upon acceptance into the premier golf club…
3 Pros to watch out for:
1. Rory McIlroy…The youngster (born in 89) from Northern Ireland has already accrued over 9 million dollars in his short career. McIlroy has already won 1 PGA tour event and finished tied for 3rd in two majors (PGA Championship, British Open). He has gotten off to a good early start and is currently sitting on top of the leaderboard after 13 holes at 5 under.
2. Y.E. Yang…The South Korean golfer is a straight pro. He beat out Tiger Woods in 2009 for the PGA Championship, but struggled last year. Watch out for this guy because if he is close on Sunday, Yang has enough game to bring home the victory.
3. Tiger Woods…Who else? Everybody is waiting for the return of the Tiger. Every single fan of the PGA wants to see him in with a chance of Sunday when he dons the red nike polo and looks for the kill shot. He is still my favorite golfer and as of now he is 1 under through 9 holes.
