Setoguchi sends Sharks to 3-0 series lead

Devin Setoguchi scored a hat trick, including an overtime winner to help the Sharks defeat the Detroit Red Wings in game 3 of their Western Conference semifinals matchup. The San Jose Sharks are now one win away from moving on to the Conference Finals. They fought hard all night, coming from behind twice (2-1, 3-2) to secure the victory and take a stranglehold on the series. This win may have been the biggest one of the season as they sent a message to the Red Wings that this series is theirs. Antti Niemi led the Sharks defense from the net with 38 saves and helped guide the Sharks to a fifth overtime win and seventh win by one-goal over the Red Wings in the past two postseasons.

The Guchi Man could have been the villain for the Sharks as he was called for a holding penalty 5 minutes into the overtime period. This led to a hectic two minutes on a Red Wings power play, but the Sharks did an excellent job killing the puck. Setoguch had this to say…

“All you’re thinking is, ‘Don’t score, don’t score, don’t score. I thought our penalty killing did a great job on that power play.”

Setoguchi then came back on the ice and put the game winner into the net after a great piece of skill from Joe Thornton, who set it all up. Before OT, Guchi told teammate Logan Couture that he was ready to score and had his celebration planned…

“I told Logan that I wanted to do the old double-knee slide. You know, the same way that Ronaldo, the soccer player, does it. But then Logan said he wanted to do that same one.”

Setoguchi beat him to it and had Sharks fans singing Gucci Two Times…

Make sure you catch the game four action this Friday as the Sharks will take on the Red Wings in Detroit at 4pm.
