With Roger Goodell still holding the NFL back and the lockout still in place, 49ers 2nd round draft pick, Colin Kaepernick is looking for coaching help elsewhere. The rookie quarterback from Nevada and Niner Nation’s heir apparent is unable to talk to Coach Harbaugh until the lockout ends, but he is able to talk to Harbaugh’s old toy and next year’s odds on favorite #1 pick, Andrew Luck. The 49ers will run the same offense that Harbaugh ran at Stanford with Luck as his quarterback.
Kaepernick is in the process of moving to Santa Clara, where the 49ers headquarers are located and plans to work with Luck as much as possible to get a grip on Harbaugh’s offensive strategy and playbook. Kaepernick is coming from the University of Nevada, where he flourished for four season in the pistol offense. He will now have to adapt to taking snaps from under center, as well as increasing his awareness and pocket presence. Kaepernick has a lot of raw talent, size (6’4, 230) and speed (4.5 40 yard dash) that the 49ers hope to harness into a mold of the quarterback of the future. In order to do so, Kaepernick hopes to learn from Luck who threw for 32 TDs and over 3,000 yards in 2010 for the Stanford Cardinal.
Kaepernick told reporters…
“Especially if the lockout stays on, I’m going to try and pick his brain as much as I can and try to get a jump-start into this offense, and pick up as much as I can from him.”
I am excited to see the young QB make moves to do this as it is known that Luck is a very smart guy who thrived under Harbaugh. This looks like the right step forward for Kaepernick and the 49ers as the lockout continues…Also, it seems as though Colin Kaepernick will wear number 7 for the 49ers. Nate Davis and Ken Dorsey didn’t pan out too well, but let’s hope Kaepernick is more like a Mike Vick than those guys.
